Rift Designs
My web and app design studio: client websites and apps, ready-made business software, and the system that runs it all.
Rift Designs is my web and app design studio, and all of it runs as one Laravel application: the public site that wins the work and the back office that runs it.
The public side is a marketing site with services, pricing, case studies and a contact form that tells you when you'll hear back. The more interesting half is behind the login. It finds its own leads: give it a trade and a town and it searches Google, Foursquare, OpenStreetMap, HERE and TomTom for businesses with no website, merges the duplicates and saves what it finds. Point it at a website and it pulls out the business details: email, phone, address and type of business. The same system then tracks visits, writes invoices and sends the newsletter.
The studio also sells ready-made products built the same way: a point of sale, gym check-in, restaurant ordering with delivery tracking, a hotel front desk, an online store and an inventory system with barcode scanning. Each one comes with a back office the client runs themselves.
There's no build step. The front end is one hand-written stylesheet and one file of plain JavaScript. The self-drawing hero, the command palette and the site checker that audits any public page in about ten seconds all sit on top of plain HTML, so the site still works without them.
